Success is a universal need for every living creature, whether human or non – human. Considering humans, we have so many sources in today’s day, which give a wide range of tips and tricks to attain sure success.
Some work for some people, some work for other people, some do not work. But what is important is to bust some common myths that people might be fooled into quite easily.
Success requires passion towards what you love doing
This advice asks us to follow our passion. We must do what we love doing, so that we do it efficiently and with interest.True. Absolutely right. But what is the feasibility of it? That is the question which limits this advice.
Everyone has a different way of living, and different boundaries of life. These boundaries are marked by responsibilities. Such responsibilities exist in everyone’s life, which we cannot run away from. Feasibility is also measured by limitations. Limitations by virtue of money and expertise. While money is not everything, it is one of the crucial factors for deciding the next course of action. Because we all are very well aware, nothing comes for free – right from the dream degree you want to pursue, to the internet that you are using to read my blog. Similarly, knowing everything is also not possible, and opportunities might be limited by inadequate expertise in a field.
So, bust this myth, because while it does work for some, it doesn’t work for others due to lack of resources.
Success makes everything perfect in life
We are all cajoled into believing that once we achieve success in getting settled, everything else will fall into place. While getting settled in life is something very important, it is not a guarantor for success.
Many “successful” people that we see today, are facing problems in their lives. What problems are those? They are real world problems that you may be facing even right now. Success in professional life, does not mean satisfaction in personal life. If you are counting on your successful position at work for eternal bliss, then you are bound to be disappointed.
So, while work is important in life, it is important to realize that it is only a part of your life. Success is important in every aspect, all stages and each relationship in your life. And that requires constant struggle and hard work.
So bust this myth, because to keep things perfect in life, success must also be maintained and not just achieved.
Winners never quit
This one is such an encouraging advice which we all feel is sure to boost us through to achieve whatever we want. Sure enough, it is a good advice for motivation.
But it is very important at some points to just give up something and change path. At this point, I’d like to mention that I wanted to do astrophysics after graduating in physics. But since I did not get through into a masters degree in astrophysics does not mean I trudge on with the same goal. Life must go on. So I changed my path and moved into nanotechnology. This was a successful step I took, as I am in a very contented professional space, which is giving me all the right opportunities and knowledge to grow.
So bust this myth because while, winners never quit, do quitters never win? Point to ponder?
So success is relative to all, so go on with your life without comparing your success with others because what may mean a path to success for you, may mean a goal for another.
